Dean Trippe vs. San Diego

Heading out to SDCC in the morning! I'll be signing copies of Comic Book Tattoo at the Image Comics booth (#2729) with [info]newjason, who wrote the story I drew (I think it's the fourth one in the book). I'll also have buttons & prints and I'll be doing little sketches during my times. If you're having trouble catching me and you really want to say hey or buy stuff, just email me and maybe we can meet up. ;)

Signing Schedule - Image Comics Booth #2729

Friday: 2pm to 3pm
Saturday:  2pm  to 3pm
Sunday: 3pm to 4pm

Also, the CBT panel will be in room 6b at 11:30am on Saturday. Anyway, we're crazy psyched about the show. Hope to see you there!

Sound

"Silence is very loud," my doctor told me, "it carries heavy meaning in conversations. It signals something's going on in the world. It's awestriking in a dance club or concert hall. Many people can't even sleep when the silence gets so loud. You know?"

I nodded in agreement. "Sure."

She smiled in acknowledgement and continued, "Well, I think I've come up with something that's even louder than silence."

"Is it sound?" I asked.

"Oh heck," she said in dismay, "looks like someone else thought of it first."

Melbourne Comedy Festival

Originally published at AuntyAdele.com. You can comment here or there.

Checked out the Melbourne Comedy Festival last night with the HomeTeam-1.

(Links opens up in new page with details.)

It was a’ight. My favourite was Dave Thornton with the MC of the night “Iron Maiden” Dave Callan a close second.

Dave Callan called Funan the IT Mall the 4 floors… for geeks. The 2 geeks with us knew he should’ve been to Sim Lim instead :)

And what do geeks do during shows?

A follow-up to the walking ratings I posted the other day

Google maps now offer walking directions from place to place! Pretty nifty feature!

Edit: I just tried it out and picked a destination a lot further than walking distance (my last job). Google gave me public transportation routes! So I tried my parent's house in the last state and it warned me that I couldn't take public transportation there (very true--my hometown sucks.). So yeah! Go Google! It's your birthday!

Here's a list of cities that Google says have public transportation, in case you are planning to make a move or go on vacation somewhere. Of course, it is not complete. I happen to know that Athens, Augusta and I believe Savannah all have a bus services, as does Knoxville, TN. Oddly enough it leaves off New York, Boston and Washington D.C., which are all known for the excellence of their public transportation.

Ich bin ein Obama-liner

I had to chuckle when I heard that Obama spoke to a crowd of over 200,000 Germans today. I had to check the historical records to see how he measured up. Kennedy, it turned out, spoke to a crowd of one million. But Reagan only spoke to 20,000 ... and his speech was proceeded by a protest march by 25,000 who resented his presence in Germany.

Personally, I thought Obama made a poor choice when he spoke so strongly about the need to fight "Terror". It sounds like he is buying into the neo-con's version of reality where terrorists are hiding under every rock. He should instead be focussing on addressing the roots of the cause which spawns the fundamentalists, the grinding poverty, the inequality of opportunity in today's global economy. Hearing him talk about fighting in Afghanistan disillusions me because I believe the occupation of even that country needs to come to an end. They don't want the foreign force there. Those who collaborate are punished and the natives will just wait and wear down the invaders. Why does Obama, who is admittedly a very smart man, not recognize the lessons of history there. Britain, Russia, Persians, you name them, they all failed to tame that land where the national sport was hauling an enemy combatant's body back and forth over a field until the corpse fell apart (granted, they use a dead calf in these 'modern' days). These are the people who rallied in the thousands demanding that a man who converted to Christianity from Islam be put to death. These are the people who marry off four year old girls to fifty year old men, where so many women die giving birth because she is not allowed to go to a hospital without being accompanied by a man.

I hope Obama is merely playing the political game, to sound like a hawk to appease the less educated blue collar voters while giving higher priority to other things when he actually gets elected.

I also noted that McCain gave a speech today to a theatre which was less than half filled. I can't find the article I read this morning but I seem to remember it said something like 500 of the 900 seats were empty.

I got another chuckle when I read that McCain specifically had lunch in a German restaurant. "Ich bin ein restaurant patron!" (burp)

If I learned nothing else today, I learned:

- One of thee most annoying songs that plays every day on our store music is performed by The Jonas Brothers.

- The original Superman movie came out when I was three.

What did YOU learn today?

Things to be happy about

1. I was lying on the floor on my tummy watching my rabbit sniff around my dad's tripods. he noticed me staring so he hopped over to sniff my arm. and then he started to lick my arm, which is the cutest darn thing ever. oodles of love poured out of my heart towards him. he's so fucking cute! then he hopped over to my back and put his front paws on my back as he stood up slightly to look around. again, i was squirming inside with happiness but i was also cringing from his nails poking into my back.

2. at Pet Lovers (Holland V), this lady was looking at cans and cans of dog food while her baby maltese mix was prancing around her feet, entangling the leash around her legs. if anyone went near them, he'd go into a dancing mad frenzy. i got too close and he started doing the Russian jig. so i got down to his level and let him lick my hands before rubbing his head. he was SOOOOO happy. the cutie was wearing diapers which is the most adorable thing i've ever seen on a puppy. this is why i love dogs. they're always so happy to see you.

3.

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

okay. so this month's list is short.

so weigh in time.

Can say I am happy. I am back up to 450. I knew I had gone up but it is pretty depressing to see how much. It really makes me unhappy but I will bear up. I am posting counts here but behind cuts so as to not annoy those who don't care. It is pretty much starting over. My goal is 430 by the end of august. The first few days will be rough as I get serious about limiting the calorie count. Today was lower than tomorrow will be. I am setting 2500 a day as the limit. Once I acclimate to the change in calories I am back on the exercise routine.

One day at a time I guess.

What surprises me.

I am the only one with interests: "volcanocam" and "donald turnupseed".

Seriously?

What questions me.

What do you suppose, were a few hours daily of nausea inevitable, would be the best hours of the day to be nauseated?

Thank you all for your good thoughts.

Mama and Bill went to Dublin today to pick up my niece and nephew, whereupon Mama talked to their other grandmother, who told her that she had seen Sue and Sue had told her that not only was the tumor larger, but it was spreading, that chemo wouldn't do anything for it, and that it's time to make hospice arrangements.

Why this information wasn't passed on to Bill we don't know, but Mama's of the opinion (and I agree) that he needs to know. Bill is neither senile nor stupid, and is certainly aware of what's going on and where it's leading, just not how fast.

Every day it's just something else. I don't know why it all has to be so cloak and dagger.
